Influences leading to FML

Junya Ishigami

After seing his exhibition Architecture as Air at the Barbican I got very interested in his work.
Whilst writing an essay about this exhibition I discovered some brilliant ideas, that state absolutely innovative outlook on architecture:
As Junya Ishigami stated, he tried to create structure melting endlessly into the space
He tried to erase margins between space and frame.

I particularly enjoyed these ideas as I always wanted to see architecture that blends perfectly into the nature. Architecture that both exists and disappears in its surroundings.

Event though an obvious connection between Junya's Ishigami and my own work can't be seen yet. He change my outlook and inspired me.
Since the theme of disappearing architecture interests me, I realised that I could bring this idea into my FMP. I believe both in depth research and practical work could be done in relation to this theme. I find this theme rather innovative, wide and perspective. It would also relate to my likes such as working in 3D, using natural medium and experimenting with processes.

Benefits (if I would do my FMP in relation to this theme):
  • broaden my knowledge about architecture (useful as I plan to become an architect one day)
  • might inform my future work
  • improve my contextual awareness
  • chance to get to know, see and explore many new things
  • a lot of perspective (as it seems unexplored area)
Thing that might get in the way of making this a successful project:
  • too little knowledge on the subject
  • theme too complex
  • too specific (however I believe it could be developed beyond architecture)

So far, I can't think of anything else. I find this theme very very interesting and I am very keen on making my FMP about disappearing architecture. However, I need more research to make a final decision.
